I have recently been noticing that Venus Williams has good days and bad days. Why does it seem like one day she can’t be beat and others days she doesn’t have enough energy to finish.
At the US opening, Williams withdrew from the tournament saying that she has been diagnosed with Sjogren’s syndrome. Sjogren’s syndrome is an autoimmune disease that causes fatigue and joint pain. Sjogren’s is usually secondary to diseases like Lupus. It is not known at this point whether there is any underlining issues in Williams case.
Williams has been known to complain of fatigue after some of her matches. She was diagnosed with anemia earlier in the year. She was thankful that she had gotten a diagnosis, thinking that was all it was. As Williams continued to have joint pain she realized there was something else wrong.
Wimbledon’s semi-finalist, Sabine Lisicki was sent into the third round. Lisicki said she had no idea that Williams wasn’t able to play. Williams had practiced and was in her match clothes, so she had expected things to go on as normal.
