Braden Crampton, 15, of Scapposse, Oregon, was on an outing with his Boy Scout troop when he fell from a 100-foot drop at the 6,000 foot level on Mount St. Helens.
While climbing the teen fell and was knocked unconscious. When coming to, he was able to yell up to his fellow scouts for help. The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office and Volcano Rescue Team moved into action to rescue Braden who was airlifted out of by helicopter. They hiked down the southwest side of the mountain to assess Braden’s condition and to get him ready for the helicopter ride to the hospital. That process took a total of six hours to complete.
Braden was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland and is in fair condition which is remarkable considering how far he fell.
