English teacher, Natalie Munroe, who blogged anonymously about her students being rude, lazy and whiners has been reinstated to teach in the fall. Munroe had been suspended with pay after her comments were discovered from her blog.

Students from Central Bucks High School in Pennsylvania found the blog their teacher had posted on the internet and had Munroe stopped with the above mentioned comments, it wouldn’t have been so bad. Munroe further made comments that teachers want to write things on the report cards like, “dresses like a streetwalker”, “rat-like”, and “frightfully dim”.

Other comments Munroe made on the blog were, “I hear the trash company is hiring,” “A complete and utter jerk,” “although academically okay, your child has no redeeming qualities,” and “There’s no other way to say this, I hate your kid.”

Did Munroe regret her comments? Not at all. Her blog and twitter comments were some of the hottest topics on the internet at that time. Parents were enraged and contacted the school board about the blog. While the investigation was being done, Munroe was suspended with pay.

Munroe’s attorney stated that her first amendment right had been violated, “There’s no Internet policy at her school district. She was free to write and she free to express herself; it was like a personal diary. She didn’t do anything wrong – some people don’t like what they have to write, but she’s being censored for what she wrote,” Rovner said. “Until the school district decides what to do with her, her life is in limbo.”

Munroe is blogging again as she prepares for the start of a new school year.

  1. If this teacher weren’t so demeaning, it wouldn’t be so bad. I think it’s OK to point out that school kids can be draining when they are lazy or complaining, but the other things she said would get me all stirred up as a parent, too. Freedom of speech does not mean that you can verbally abuse people. It’s your right and you can, but there may be backlash or sorts.
