Toyota is about to recall 778,000 RAV4 and Lexus HS250h models affected by rust on tie rods. The problem is Toyota is not quite sure how to fix the rear suspension issue.
According to Toyota execs, the problem goes back to 2008 and owners of some RAV4 and Lexus HS250h are affected. If the suspension tie rods go, drivers could lose control of the vehicle, resulting in an accident and possible injuries or loss of life. Apparently tie rod erosion in affected models can cause rust to build up on tie rods and the possibility of the arm breaking is a possibility.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Toyota is on top of things and working out the details of how to repair cars. More to come.
