Popular show, American Idol, has a vacant judge’s seat it wants to fill and had offered Katy Perry $18 million to take the gig. When the offer was turned down by Perry, Idol upped that amount to $20 million.
Perry refused the seat and said that money was not her reason for rejecting the offer. The $20 million was for a one year contract as a judge on the show.
Mariah Carey was recently offered $18 million which she took to be an American Idol judge.
Sources say that Perry didn’t think the American Idol gig was the right career move and that her schedule made it impossible for her to do the show.
Perry made eleven million in revenue and ranked on the list of top moneymakers of 2011, according to Billboard’s list for musicians. Touring remained the biggest source of income for the top earners in the U.S. music business which may or may not be the reason Perry wants to continue with her touring schedule.
Katy Perry and now ex-husband Russell Brand were divorced in Feb. 2012 after just 14 months of marriage. The couple married on October 23, 2010, in a traditional Hindu ceremony in Rajasthan, India. Comments made by Perry indicated that one of the reasons for the marital discord was that Brand didn’t want to have children.
