The World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) announced Tuesday after a meeting in France that radio-frequency electromagnetic fields generated by cell phone devices are “possibly carcinogenic to humans.” The WHO warning of increased brain cancer risk for cellular phone users has many Americans concerned since the news broke. Many people need and use their phones to do their jobs and with even more people choosing cell phones over land lines, the long term effects of cell phone use is a threat to adults and children. The good news is that there is no direct proof cited in their work. However, it may behove us all to use hand free devices and bluetooth while talking and perhaps choose texting over speech in the future.

I have had one of those “gut” feelings about cellphones, hoping I was wrong. We really need to be using speakerphones or headsets. No, I don’t fear cancer from them, I just think, if there is a possible risk, why take it? I’d rather be safe than sorry.
